Activities
Lady Mayhew Wood
At one side of the side there is a mixed woodland, which is particularly spectacular in the bluebell season. It has two campfire circles, an equipment store and information boards about local wildlife. Access is shared by the lodge and campsite residents. Please respect the neighbours by keeping the noise levels down after 9.30 pm.
Mosaic trail
Also located across the whole of the site is a mosaic trail, created by the ARC. There are 13 plaques to discover, including on the outside of the lodge, in the campsite and woodland. Each mosaic has a QR code so that you can find out more about the featured picture. There are also badges and two colouring books available to purchase, either from the lodge or via the ARC website. Please liaise with the lodge / campsite users if you are staying on site and wish to use.
If you are visiting the ARC and wish to take part in the trail, please contact us to arrange use of lodge or campsite facilities.
Games equipment
The outside games shed has equipment for volleyball, badminton, short tennis, high jump, hoops, balls, and large outdoor chess and Jenga. Football goal nets are also located on the site.
There are two x 24ft parachutes kept in the cupboard in the lobby.
A fixed obstacle course runs up the side of the campsite for use by all.
Access to the games shed is given to both lodge and campsite users. If you are staying onsite, please liaise with other visitors if needed.
Lodge – veranda
The veranda is accessible via the kitchen and main hall – giving access to fresh air areas throughout the year. It opens out onto a large grassed area, screened from the roadway. The area has a wooden ‘jungle climber’ play equipment and HMS Patteson to promote imagination whilst playing. There is also a bbq area near to the kitchen doorway, and picnic tables and undercover seating.
In the corner of the recreation area, the Trefoil Guild manages the Millefleur garden. A conservation area provides a small amount of seating in the wildflower garden and compost area. Millefleur has re-established species once found on the site at the beginning of 20th century.
Inside the lodge – CD/Tape/Radio & TV/DVD/Video
Adjacent to comfy corner in the main hall is the two players. There are various CD’s, video’s and DVD’s in the cupboards or you are welcome to bring your own. Instructions for usage are included in the welcome book. The TV is wall mounted, and there are large floor cushions stored under the stairs – ideal for making watching a little more comfortable!
Shop
In the lodge a shop can be found on the first floor landing that stocks Patteson Lodge and Girlguiding merchandise, along with novelty toys and gifts.
A shop can also be arranged for the campsite only bookings.
Leaders can be responsible for opening this at any time which is convenient to them during their stay. Please ensure your group brings change, rather than notes, as only a small amount of float is available. Most items are under £5. All proceeds from the shop go to supporting Patteson Lodge Estate.
Archive Resource Centre
In the grounds of Patteson Lodge, take a step back in time and sample traditions from the past. Booked sessions are led by trained volunteers and can be adapted as required. Please contact the archivist to discuss archivist@girlguidingnorfolk.org.uk
Sessions can range from Traditions in Guiding (age specific) sessions which meet the requirements of some UMAs and Skills Builders, to what the guides did in the World Wars, and social history of the past 100 years. You can also experience outdoor cooking or try on some of the uniforms available to see which style is the most popular with the unit.
Details of a Time Traveller challenge badge and other activities are available on the ARC website – click the link below.
