Campsite

The field is a ¾ acre close mown sheltered site. The site has woodland on both sides, field behind the camp building and lodge beyond the carpark. Plenty of wildlife makes good use of the campsite when it isn’t occupied by campers, so you may see muntjac deer or hear owls or bats during the night-time.

There is a campfire area within the campsite, and a further campfire area in Lady Mayhew woodlands. Please liaise with the lodge users to ensure both groups can use a campfire if required.

Facilities:  The dry shelter has electricity and cooking/catering equipment for 36 people, including a fridge/freezer.  The toilet block has 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 hand basins.  An accessible toilet and shower is on the side of the shower block, accessed by a ramp. There is also a wooden shelter, 6m x 4m, completely empty for you to use. In 2025 a covered area next to the dry shelter was added to give more outside area for gas cooking or washing up.

Cooking:  There is an abundance of camping styles open to you with altar fires, gas stoves, barbecues and sites for patrol cooking.  A camp oven is also available for those who want to experiment with exceptional outdoor menus! There is a selection of firewood in the wood store at the side of the dry shelter.

Tents:  There is a choice of lightweight and heavyweight tents available to hire, discuss with a staff member to ensure your needs can be met.

General Information

Pets:  Sorry no dogs (except assistance dogs) or any other pets are allowed on the campsite.

Cars:  Cars may be driven onto the field to unload but they must be returned to the car park outside the Lodge for the duration of the camp.

Spaces reserved for lodge: generally the front garden is for lodge use only. As it includes play equipment, please liaise with the lodge occupants if you wish to access.

Millefleur garden: This is situated in the front garden, facing the road. The gardening group have researched the plants that would have existed on the site when it was given to Girlguiding Norfolk by the Patteson sisters. If you wish to take a look, please let the lodge occupants aware that you will be in that location.

Wildlife area and bug hotel: situated between the lodge kitchen window and the ARC is a wildlife area. In 2024 a bug hotel was added and is filling up nicely with plenty of insects! If you want to take a closer look, including at the tree that was planted to celebrate the 40th anniversary, use the stepping stones near to the ARC.

Shopping:  Coltishall is within 5 minutes walk and has a mini-market, garage, chemist, butcher and fish and chip shop (any bulk orders must be pre-booked).  The train station is within walking distance and will take you from Coltishall to Wroxham for larger shops and more choice.

 

Parking and other shared areas

Patteson lodge estate comprises more than one site, so please be aware that others may also be accessing shared areas.

The car parks at the site are reserved for different areas.

  • As you enter the driveway the parking on the left, is for anyone visiting the ARC.
  • In the main carpark, please park against the lodge windows or next to the kitchen if you are staying in the lodge.
  • If you are using the campsite, please park in the main carpark, facing the field fencing.

Front garden

  • Mainly reserved for the lodge users, occasional events taking place at the ARC  will involve visitors within the area immediately around the ARC.

Mosaic trail

The trail covers the whole of Patteson lodge estate. If you are visiting when either the lodge or the campsite is in use, please ensure that you are not disrupting their event when you complete the trail!
